  • Top Ten Zoological Myths and Mysteries

Are you one of those people who don’t believe we know everything that is out there in the world? If you cling proudly to your “I Hunted Nessie” shirt and tear up every time you hear about a new Bigfoot sighting, this is the list for you. It chronicles the ten most awesome mysteries that plague the field of Zoology. Technically, these are examples of Cryptozoology, but that would imply they aren’t real, and they totally are—right?

    10. Mermaids:

We probably aren’t talking about Ariel and Triton, here, but there have been reports of mysterious pseudo-humans living in the water for thousands of years. There are even cave drawings located at the edge of long-dry ocean beds in the Egyptian desert that seem to depict a group of regular old two-legged people being threatened by creatures that have the torso of people and the tails of fish—and are brandishing spears. One of the prevailing theories of these creatures is that they are an evolutionary hiccup that happened when our ape-like ancestors wandered to the edge of the ocean and eventually just wandered right on in. It is thought that mermaids cooperate with deep ocean animals to hunt for food and stay out of sight of humans. Just don’t tell Flounder.

    9. The Yeti

This is not your happy-go-lucky Christmas friend Frosty. The Yeti is also referred to as the Abominable Snowman because he is the often white-furred version of the Bigfoot that tends to live in snowy climates. There’s nothing quite like walking outside to get a nice breath of cold fresh air and admire a newly fallen blanket of snow only to find out that that snow bank you have been leaning on is actually an eight-foot tall monkey thing. Like the mermaids, there are signs of Yeti sightings since before recorded history.

    8. Loch Ness Monster:

Nessie is perhaps the most beloved of all the zoological mysteries. Put aside that she might be a dinosaur left over from the end of their world that glides around in the inky black loch just waiting for an unsuspecting fisherman to fall overboard, and you have a pretty romantic tale. Hundreds of years’ worth of accounts speak of an enormous creature in the water, but only ever one. Could this be the oldest and loneliest mystery creature ever? Many people dedicate their lives to not only finding Nessie, but of figuring out what she is and how many more there are. She, of course, is not a unique story. There are apparently similar monsters in New York and Canada.

    7. Chupacabras:

Literally “goat suckers”, these interesting little monsters originated in Latin America but have recently traveled their way up to North America as well. The legends began when a whole flock of eight sheep were discovered dead. They each had three puncture wounds in their chests and were completely devoid of blood. The chupacabra is generally described as being about the size of a small bear or large dog with spines down his back and scaly, reptilian skin. In North America the description changes a bit to more resemble a coyote or other wild dog, but with the same spikes. Apparently this creature hops like a kangaroo and goes after animals for the purpose of sucking out all of their blood.

    6. Giant Sloth:

This is a mystery that is not so much a mystery but a big question mark. There is actual paleontological evidence that demonstrates that ridiculously huge versions of the cute, super-slow animals did exist in prehistoric times. Now, ridiculously huge is not an exaggeration. We’re talking a skeleton of an animal that looks exactly like the sloths we know and love, but is twenty feet from his head to his tail and would belong to an animal weighing 4 TONS. That’s over 8,000 pounds! The question mark comes in in that there are people who claim to have seen one of these supposedly extinct uber-mammals roaming around in Georgia and the Amazon Rain Forest.

    5. Globsters:

While this may sound like the title of a long-lost 50s horror movie, these mysterious creatures are actually the most compelling evidence of unidentified sea monsters. Huge blobs of goo keep washing up on beaches all over the world. These globs are usually described as fibrous collagen, and sometimes exhibit distinctive features such as tentacles, gills, and even mouths. One theory is that many of the less animal-like blobs are actually decomposing whale blubber, but there have been DNA tests that have completely disproved this theory in many situations. So…super huge octopus? Shockingly big squid? Ginormous jellyfish? Or unidentified species of sea goo?

    4. Mongolian Death Worm:

This creature is pretty dinky compared to the other monsters on this list. But even at only two to five feet long, the Death Worm is nothing to sneeze at. This bright red worm is said to squirm around the Gobi Desert spewing acid that instantly kills any living creature that it touches. Some reports even say that this super worm can discharge and electric shock as another means of incapacitating and doing away with prey.

    3. Mothman:

This weird zoological head-scratcher is so cool that they made a movie out of it. All of the buzz of the Mothman started in 1966 when stories of an enormous winged creature with glowing red eyes started pouring in. Chronicled in the book “The Mothman Prophecies” by John Keel and then later turned into a movie of the same title, these stories became the basis of a cultural phenomenon. Called the Mothman because Batman was so popular at the time—no, not kidding—the creature was seen over the next few months. Around this time people also reported UFOs and “men in black” in the same area. Sightings have dwindled away to almost none and some experts have pondered if perhaps all this hullabaloo was over a sand crane that was lost.

    2. Skunk Ape:

The name just says it all, doesn’t it? Florida’s answer to Bigfoot, the skunk ape is said to wander through the swamps. He resembles, well, an ape. It is his smell that really lets people know he’s around, however. Said to be so rank you can smell him almost a mile away, it’s a wonder that there’s really any doubt of this creature. Unlike the Bigfoot sightings in other areas of the country, the skunk ape is said to be slimmer and have brownish gray fur. There’s no real explanation as to why this creature smells as bad as he does. Except, perhaps, that he lives in a swamp.

    1. Honey Island Swamp Monster

This is a much cuter name the first eventually the same animal as the skunk ape. This one, however, is said to inhabit the swamps, particularly Honey Island Swamp, in Louisiana. Eyewitnesses describe a seven foot tall, two-legged animal with gray hair and bright red eyes. The enormous footprint set up and found supposedly feature four webbed toes. Even better than the possibility of an actual swap monster, is a local legend that surrounds it. Locals say that in the early 1900s each train was traveling through the area when it crashed. On this train was a traveling circus, and the chimpanzees from the circus escaped into the swamp. There they interbred with such local creatures of the alligators. This, they say, created the swamp monster.

But his struggle paid off and he got the title of the best magician who ever lived.

    6. Hilary Swank

Hilary swank is one of my personal favourite actresses because she is very talented and has starred in some very good movies. I recently found out that at the age of 15 Hilary and her mother moved from Washington to Los Angeles by car because of Hilary’s auditions. They were in so much trouble that they had to live in their car until a friend helped them out by offering them a place. Her mother used pay phones for making appointments in the auditions. But now after the risky choice she had made at that time, it has finally paid off because she has become a successful actress.

    5. Carmen Electra

Carmen Electra is an actress and a model. Her acting career is pretty much known by her spoofs of movies such as epic movie, disaster movie, meet the Spartans etc. In 2009, she gave an interview about her being homeless; she said not many people even knew about this. She said that in her early 20s her savings were stolen by her boyfriend. This resulted in her being homeless.

    4. Sylvester Stallone

After seeing this name most of the “Rambo” and “Rocky” fans would get a shock that how could a rich and famous person like Sylvester be homeless. According to Total Film magazine, Sylvester said that he was broke and was basically sleeping in the port authority bus station for three weeks straight. Then he saw a wanted post in the paper about the film The Party at Kitty and studs who were paying $100 a day, he said that the offer was too good that he would do anything for it. So after working 2 days on the set he was finally able to get himself out of the bus station.

    3. Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey is an actor, writer, producer and one hell of a comedian. He is my personal favourite comedian; due to his unimaginable talents he has won many hearts over the globe. But it sounds very sad to know that the famous Jim Carrey was once homeless. It was said that even his parents were so poor that they couldn’t afford a place either. While Jim was also struggling as an actor, he and his family, which includes elder brother John Carrey, elder sister Rita Carrey, and parents Percy Carrey and Kathleen Carrey were living in a tent in the backyard of the home of Jim’s elder sister Patricia Carrey who was married.

    2. Halle Berry

Halle berry is an Oscar and Emmy award winning actress, and is famous for her role as Storm in X-Men trilogy. In 2007, Reader’s Digest had interviewed berry, in which she told the interviewer that after leaving home for the first time, while she was struggling as an actress she had to live in a homeless shelter. The reason was that her mother had refused to pay her anymore and had given her two choices, either to come home or find a way herself. The actress refused to go back and continued her struggle and now as we can see how successful she is. But not many can even imagine her being homeless.

  • Top 10 Futuristic Concept Bike Designs – Page 2 of 2

    6.  Detonator V4 6.0

This new bike has taken the biking world a step further as this monster bears no semblance to any existing concepts. Instead of the conventional ways of steering, the monster has an electromagnetic sled located behind the front wheel and the rider has to control the impulse with two independent handlebars where the front light is mounted. This machine looks like a crossover between a chopper and an automotive soldered android. The bike also has a glass tube radar system, which helps in navigating the giant.

    7. Victory Vision 800

Victory Motorcycles have traditionally crafted motorcycles of the big V-twin cruiser, Harleyesque genre, but the signs are beginning to point to a more diverse product range in the not-too-distant future. The Victory Vision 800 is a true concept bike, designed to show just how radical Victory can think.  It uses a 800cc, parallel-twin engine with a Continuously Variable Transmission. With the absence of clutch and gear, all the foot controls are shifted to the handle bars.

    8. The Hyanide

This motorcycle is equipped with tank-esque treads to turn it into an all-terrain mobile. The Hyanide is also capable of making sharp and fast turns with a advanced turning system that bends the entire frame of the bike to properly make turns. Powering the concept is a 500cc engine derived from a snow mobile. This single cylinder, oil cooled engine is capable of producing 60 horsepower  that could product a top speed upwards of 85 mph.

    9.  Batpod

The Batpod made its appearance for the first time in the last Batman movie, The Dark Knights. The Batpod was designed for the movie by Nathan Crowley and is powered by a high-performance, water-cooled, single-cylinder engine – geared toward the lower end for phenomenal acceleration and lack of exhaust pipes.

    10.” One” folding Bike

Sometimes you really wish it were easier to keep your bicycle with you throughout the day, through bus rides, at the store or at the office. ‘One’ provides a real solution to the problems involved with urban transport. With congestion rapidly clogging up the roads the need for products that can free individuals from their car are in real demand. This folding bicycle by Thomas Owen has a futuristic-looking design that compacts into an incredibly small super-portable package.  A prototype ‘One’ bicycle was made, but it doesn’t look like it is quite road-ready yet but it will be soon on roads in near future.

  • 10 Cool & Creative Coffee Mugs

    1. On/Off Mug

This apparently ordinary mug is not at all ordinary. Created with heat sensitive pigment, at first glance the On/Off Mug ($27.00), looks like a standard black mug with big white letters that say “OFF”. Nothing extravagant, but once you add the hot beverage of your choice, the mug changes color to white and in big black letters it states: “ON”. and when half filled – you can see as pictured.

    2. Brugo Self-Cooling Coffee Mug

Now This mug comes with a “Temperature Control Chamber” at the top which measures out a drinkable portion of coffee, and cools it down to 150-170°F., which they say provides optimum taste at a comfortable temperature. The lid has three settings: “Tip and Cool”, which allows you to drink using the Temperature Control Chamber, “Sip” which bypasses the Chamber allowing to drink like a normal cup, and “Lock”, which closes the cup. Wow! Now Isn’t that fascinating?

    3. Zero Gravity Coffee Cup

Oddly enough, the On-orbit mug is the second design that I have seen for a space coffee cup, the first was by Daniel Pettit, but this one has a special designer touch. You see, coffee, like all other liquids is a little tougher to drink in zero gravity, hence the intricacy of the design which uses surface tension from the narrow bottom and a deep groove to allow the space traveler to enjoy a cup of Joe just as he or she would do on Earth. Kudos to Travis Baldwin for such a sweet design.

    4. Lockable Coffee Cup

Well I found this to be weird because you have a coffee cup which has a lock and key. Can you believe it? I would not want to drink a cup of coffee from somebody else’s cup so if somebody tries drinking from my cup, I would be able to lock it.

    5. Drink Selector Mug

If you are tired of telling people how you like your tea or coffee, just twist rings on your Drink Selector Mug ($22.75) to reveal your choice of drink and your milk and sugar preferences.

    8. 2-Carat Cup

If you’re seeking lady love and but aren’t sure your significant other is completely aware of this, say it with this 2-Carat Cup ($15.00). Image Source
In its “ranks closed” fomation, the Mug Pie can be used to create a lovely floral arrangement, party-size servings of olives, nuts, guacamole, and other dips and sauces, holders for your desk items… Ah, but I digress. They are coffee mugs, so let’s figure out how to get to their mug handles. Aha! Oh, yes, the Mug Pie is definitely a set of coffee (okay “beverage”) mugs… and even more elegant in part than it is in toto. These 12 ounce mugs are totally unique, even stunning! Mug Pies are for sale at Elseware in white/white, orange/white, light blue/white. Mug Pie is 10″ in diameter. Mugs are dishwasher safe and microwavable.

    10. Equal Measure Cup
